Epoxy Flooring Is Durable and Easy to Maintain
Epoxy flooring is an excellent choice for garages and commercial operations because it is durable, resists oil, gasoline, and grime. The epoxy coating spreads like a liquid, then hardens into a smooth, solid surface. There are no seams or grout lines for dirt to accumulate in.
Epoxy is clear, but you can add a variety of color tints to match the design and decor of the garage or commercial space. To add durability and a clean, shiny look, it is recommended to apply a clear topcoat so your new epoxy garage floor will last for many years.
Epoxy Floors are Slip-Resistant, Making Them Great for Garages
Shiny, slick floors look great but can be a fall hazard in your garage. You can choose from a wide variety of colors and patterns when you install epoxy flooring in your garage. Both our vinyl chips and colored quartz granules are fantastic ways to ensure a slip floor epoxy floor. Keeping a slip-free surface is incredibly important for home safety, particularly when you consider that the CDC recently shared guidelines showing that one in five falls result in a serious head injury or broken bones. Plus, these easy-care flooring choices come in a wide range of colors and styles. This allows you to easily match your preferred look — even including some swirled patterns with mix-in options if you’re so inclined.
Benefits of Epoxy Garage Floor Coatings
Contractor Source develops coatings and products for commercial contractors and flooring specialists. Our products undergo a rigorous design and testing process before being sold for commercial use. There are many reasons why epoxy garage floor contractors select our epoxy flooring materials.
Contractor-Grade Materials
We use only the best contractor-grade materials, so your projects look great and last for years. With our commitment to quality, you can be confident that you’re only offering the best and more durable materials to your clients.
Highly Durable Epoxy Flooring
Contractor Source epoxy flooring materials are highly durable and last for many years. We use only the best ingredients and test our products to ensure they work as advertised.
Consumers need to be aware of other retailers selling lower-quality products that don’t compare with epoxy coatings. Many businesses sell latex acrylic paint for garage floors. These less-expensive coatings do not have the durability of epoxy coatings and will need to be reapplied in a fraction of the time.
Epoxy coatings are two-part systems that react when mixed to provide a stronger chemical bond than a single-part paint or coating. This can reduce the possibility of flaking or peeling, which can happen with lower-quality materials or those that don’t have the same chemical properties of an epoxy floor.
Easy to Apply
It’s easy to buy our epoxy floor products using our Garage Floor Configurator, and it’s even easier to apply our Epoxy HP or low VOC Polyaspartic 85 floor coating products with our unique tools and applicators. All you need to know is the square footage of the job, the color of the tint, type of flakes, and we’ll step you through the whole process. Then, when you’re done selecting the materials and products, proceed to our online checkout and complete the order.
As an example, enter 300 square feet in the calculator, and you’ll receive these results:
- 2 gallons of base coat
- 2 containers of base coat coloring
- 2 bags of vinyl chips or 10 bags of quartz powder
- 1.7 gallons of the topcoat
Expert Application Guides
Applying garage floor epoxy coatings is easy for novices and flooring experts who use the Contractor Source application guides. These guides provide detailed product lists, floor preparation, application, and coating instructions as reference guides for flooring contractors and DIY enthusiasts.
Showroom Quality Finishes
Epoxy coatings brighten up even the dullest concrete floor. The clean-looking, smooth layers brighten up your garage or auto showroom. Mix in colors, vinyl chips or even quartz to spruce up the image and impress your visitors with a high-quality garage floor. Not only will epoxy coating enhance the appearance of your garage floor, but it will also enhance its durability and performance.
Epoxy Garage Floors Are Resistant to Stains and Chipping
The epoxy coating protects the underlying concrete floor from moisture, oil, and staining. The epoxy seals the concrete preventing moisture from damaging the floor and leaving water stains.
This coating is helpful in cold climates when the snow melts off the autos or snow melting chemicals can attack the concrete. In addition, the ultra-hard coating resists dents and chips if items fall on the floor. This heavy-duty coating can withstand even the most challenging conditions, saving you time and money in the long run as you won’t have to worry about replacements or fixes in the near future.
Highly Rated
The Contractor Source epoxy garage floor coatings are highly rated by commercial concrete and flooring contractors. The high-quality coatings are easy to apply and resist oil, grease, water and salt damage. Moreover, the products also dry quickly, often in less than one day. This can be a huge selling point for commercial applications, as the quick-drying epoxy ensures that downtime is limited for customers. Epoxy floors are an easy upgrade for spaces that won’t negatively impact your profits with a long drying time.
Many Options of Epoxy Designs, Colors and Quantities
Tru Tint RZ is garage floor coating colorant mixed directly into the mixture after both parts are combined. You have a choice of several colors. Vinyl chips and quartz are added to the epoxy to create additional designs and patterns to the colored epoxy. Tints are available in 6-oz packages and are designed to tint a standard 3-gallon epoxy kit to a solid color. With this range of design and pattern options at your fingertips, it's easier than ever to choose your perfect epoxy coating. Metallic epoxy pigments, called Tru Lustre, are another way to introduce interest and customize an epoxy floor.
Vinyl Chips
Vinyl chips are decorative and provide a non-skid surface to provide added safety in the garage or commercial location. These chips add color and interesting designs to bare floors. There are 20 different color combinations of vinyl chips. Once chips are broadcast onto the epoxy, Contractor Source sells scrapers to create a smooth surface. Once trimmed, a topcoat is applied to seal the epoxy and vinyl chips.
Quartz Epoxy System
If you want your floor to have a superior texture, consider using our Quartz epoxy floor system. The finely milled quartz granules create a smooth or textured surface embedded within the hardened epoxy coating. First, the floor is prepped and primed before applying the clear or tinted epoxy coating. Then, the granules are broadcast by hand until the entire surface is covered. Once hardened, a topcoat will lock the quartz in place and provide a smooth surface. The result is a top-quality garage floor your customers will be proud of for many years to come.
Resin Pigment
Want to boost the appeal of your flooring or add a pop of color to your space? You can quickly achieve a wide variety of looks by adding a clear epoxy coating and using resin pigment powder. Available in a wide range of colors, the pigment, packaged in 6-ounce containers, is enough to colorize 3 gallons of epoxy garage floor coating. The opaque or metallic pigments are mixed into the epoxy prior to spreading over the concrete floor.
Metallic
If you want your garage or restaurant floor to have a truly unique look, then you need to try Tru Lucent metallic pigment systems. These special effect pigments give floors a 3-D, translucent look resembling a metallic floor. The metallic effects reflect light creating dramatic and creative effects. Even a garage floor can look impressive when you add in this type of metallic element!

Keep in mind that epoxy is a chemical compound, and you’ll need to protect your skin appropriately. That means wearing protective gloves and durable clothing to reduce the chance that the epoxy or colorants get on your bare skin.
Prepare the Concrete Floor
The underlying concrete floor should be free of cracks and be level. Fill and grind joints, then grind the floor until it is the consistency of rough sandpaper. Be sure to vacuum and clean all dust from the floor. Leaving any dust on the floor could cause the epoxy to bubble and not apply cleanly, so it’s vital that you get the floor as clean as possible as a starting point. It’s also important that concrete is moisture free. Any moisture will cause the coatings to fail. New concrete should cure a minimum of 30 days.
This also includes ensuring you have a plastic tarp or other covering to protect the area where you’re mixing your epoxy.
In a clean space, create a setup area where you can mix in any tints and store your tools. Since epoxy can harden quickly, you’ll want to be sure everything is ready before you get started.
Mix Tint & Apply the Base Coat
Mix the two-part epoxy base coat using a helix mixer, then add the tint powder into the epoxy mixture to apply the colorant. Some of the tools that you can use to mix the tint include a 5-gallon bucket to reduce the possibility of splatter and a metal mixer attached to a power drill. Using the power tools to mix helps evenly distribute the base color throughout the epoxy. You’ll want to mix in small batches and ensure that your measurements are precise to create a uniform look for your floors.
Next, roll out the coating evenly across the floor. Work quickly to ensure that your flooring epoxy and any add-ins stay evenly mixed. If there’s a delay in getting the epoxy on the floor, do not be afraid to re-mix as needed to maintain an even consistency. Having a smooth and even base coat will provide the best possible start to your flooring project and allow any add-ins such as quartz or vinyl chips to be distributed properly.
Spread the Vinyl Chips or Quartz
Broadcast the vinyl chips or quartz granules evenly into the coated floor. Be sure to cover the entire surface. Use a metal scraper to remove excess and smooth flakes or granules and vacuum up the excess when finished. Your floor should have an even mix of color if the flakes are evenly mixed throughout the space. It’s good to have a few extra ounces of flakes on hand “just in case” to ensure a smooth and consistent application of color.
Apply the Topcoat
Allow the base coat to harden following the packaging instructions (typically 8-16 hours), then roll the topcoat on to protect the flakes and seal the epoxy coating. The topcoat should be applied evenly, with a thin covering that creates the final seal for your new flooring.
If you do get epoxy on your skin during the application process, the good news is that it can be easily removed by wiping it off with a cloth or paper towel that has been dampened with paint thinner. Keep in mind; it’s best to get the epoxy off your skin or clothing quickly as it can be more challenging to remove once it has had time to dry fully.
Garage Epoxy Flooring Is Beautiful and Functional
Concrete floor contractors rave about the beauty and functionality of the garage floor epoxy coating system. The clear, smooth flooring transforms dull garages into auto showrooms. But unlike lower-priced water-based acrylic coatings, epoxy floors last for years and resist water stains, oil, grease and chemicals. Non-skid vinyl chips, quartz granules, and color pigments add to the aesthetics and improve the functionality for high-traffic commercial facilities. Plus, even the small amount of grip added from the mix-in options for these epoxy floors can help reduce the possibility of slipping and falling — something that is particularly important for commercial applications and water prone garages.

Testimonials
We have used a lot of epoxy over the years. Too fast, too slow, too thick, too thin, too pricey. We just deal with it because that is the way it is. Finally, just right. Great pot life, almost no air. Flattens out like glass. We only tested a 3 gallon kit but we will be back for more.
- ProfloorsNJ
We tested this new Polyaspartic on a small commercial bathroom over quartz. It was very easy to work with, had no smell, and has held up very well. This is about the best priced coating like this we have come across but it performs better than what I am used to. 5 stars.
- Floor Creations
After a lot of years in the coatings industry, I’ve had the opportunity to work with and use a large volume of different products from many manufacturers.
This has given me a unique perspective to truly understand the differences between these brands, and what it is I am looking for from a professional install perspective.
Having had the opportunity to use Walttools HP Epoxy, I can say that it has the professional qualities that I look for in a brand. American made, this product has virtually no smell factor, laid down with zero outgassing bubbles, and the flow rate for creation was top notch. Another factor I appreciate was cure time, as every project I used it for cured completely by the following morning, so we could continue our next steps to completion. I give this brand and product high mark’s, and I will be recommending it to all of my associates in this industry!
Thanks Walttools for a top notch product!
- Daryl Bates, Excalibur Flooring
As a first timer I was pretty worried about trying this on my own. They told me that the biggest hurdle was making sure the floor was prepared properly. My neighbor has a concrete grinder and lended a hand in freshening up the top surface. It almost looked new at that point!
First I applied a full 3 gallon kit of epoxy that I mixed beige color into and spread it using the squeegee I purchased with everything else. That took about 40 minutes. We both spread out the chips just as they described. Tossing them up in the air and letting them scatter. Once the floor looked like it had the right amount of chip splatter we left it along until the next morning. We used the scraper tool they recommended to knock off anything that was sticking out yet. It left us a little pile of broken chips that we vacuumed up.
We mixed up the polyaspartic material in smaller batches(3 quarts at a time) and rolled it out evenly. We did not quite use all three gallons but it was close. All in all it was a great learning experience and we love our new garage floor.
- Gerry George, Diy
I have found a polyaspartic that does not make me cringe. I love the idea of speed but speed kills too many floors for me. This gave me a good half hour working time and I still got back on after 4 hrs. No roller marks, hooray!
- Mike Miller
Getting all the material in one place is great. Whats even greater is only using a couple materials for your whole job. Their polyaspartic is the ticket. Made our work lives easier.
- Magic Floors LLC
The Polyaspartic 85 from Walttools is the best we have found both in performance and price. Our previous polys were too brittle and often cracked along the joints. Their formula seems to allow to joints to do their thing and not crack over time. The working time is excellent. One of the best parts of using it is the lack of odor. Our old stuff could be a problem even with open doors. Not anymore. This is a great find.
- XPRESS Flooring LLC
Epoxy that seems bubble free? I never thought I would see it but this epoxy really goes down so clean and easy and bubble free. The epoxy gives us plenty of time to install our chips, even in warmer weather. The next day it is ready for cleanup and top coating. I wish it was in gallon jugs for smaller jobs but this helps keep the cost down I suppose. I may just start trying metallics again with this product since the epoxy I used to use was too fast.
- Gary Rush, Rush Garage Floors
My experience using the Walttools polyaspartic has been a positive one. The material has a low odor, easy to squeegee viscosity, long working time, and it doesn’t foam. Being that it comes in a clear base, field coloring the resin is simple enough to do while mixing. There are limits to any product’s performance, but I have not had any negative experiences using this polyaspartic.
- Josh Jones, President, Substrate Technology
We have found a reliable system for our chip garage floors. The polyaspartic from Walttools works for us for all phases. Prime, base and topcoat. This has allowed us to complete projects one day faster than our old system. We had tried polyspartic several years ago but it was just too fast. This really penetrates into our shot blasted floors better than the higher viscosity epoxy we were using. We find a second top coat works best for our clients.
- TRT Floor Renovations
We called and talked to an informative person at this place to give us an overview for doing our garage floor. We had a friend with a grinder to clean up the top and then we were on our own. This review involves a few products. The Essential Primer, the Epoxy HP, Gray tint RZ and the Acrithane. The good news, it all worked great. The bad news, we have neighbors who want it now. It really was an easy process if you don’t panic. All the products did what we expected after we talked to them in detail. The Acrithane dried faster than we expected so it left lines. We just did another coat and it took care of it. Just be sure you have a few days in a row to do this type of project because it needs to be done in consecutive stages/days to work properly.
- Lori Lane, Diy
Polyaspartic 85 is very user friendly product as well as offering great coverage ability. After the many polyaspartic coatings our crew has applied, the polyaspartic 85 could be best described as a breath of fresh air when it comes to application. We are very pleased with its performance and durability. Yet another great WALTTOOLS product for the win!
