sealer shotWhen most of us think of concrete, we think of an extremely durable material that can put up with the elements all year round, but that’s not necessarily the case. Concrete is quite susceptible to the elements. In fact, it’s vulnerable to things like moisture, stains, dirt, and other forms of debris. The constant wear and tear can quickly grind away at the surface of your concrete floor and cause huge problems when large areas are weakened. As such, it’s essential you choose from the numerous concrete sealers available and apply it in a timely manner. So, which type of sealer to choose?

Two Types of Concrete Sealers

Concrete sealers essentially come one of two ways: (1) surface or (2) penetrating sealer and coating. Both can be basically applied in the same manner. They can usually be easily rolled out over the surface of your floor like you would roll paint on a wall or floor.  It’s important, however, that you get an even coat, so parts of your floor don’t look different than the others.

There are other methods available, too. Another popular one involves a spray gun that allows you to disperse large amounts of the material over a wide area all at once. Again, though, it’s important you coat evenly.

Tinted sealers

Using Tinted sealers is a great way to give your floor new life. Whether it’s suffering from signs of rust, oils spills or grease marks, it’s nothing a little coating can’t fix. Acrylic is a common choice, though, whatever you do, don’t rely on normal household paints, whether for the interior or exterior of your home. You need sealers designed for concrete floors.

Coatings

However, it’s tough to beat epoxy, polyaspartic, or urethane or related coating when it comes to choosing a sealer for your concrete floor. They have become much more common, especially in garages where large vehicles and foot traffic can cause all kinds of wear and tear.
