Adding a decorative border to a small-scale concrete project is a relatively simple task for a trained concrete contractor. But when you need to apply that border to a miles-long road project, this simple task can quickly become a real challenge. Fortunately, there’s a simple, cost-effective solution to this problem: concrete pattern rollers. Decorative concrete rollers are a time-efficient method for applying concrete border patterns for projects that are long or curvy. They are especially useful for department of transportation (DOT) projects such as medians, sidewalks and shoulders that require a pattern that is relatively narrow (8” to 10”) and continue for a long distance. Wider rollers apply a seamless stone-like surface. Seamless rollers are available in 9, 18 and 24 inch wide sizes. You can also use the wider concrete stamp curb rollers to place a border on a patio slab or decorate a control joint. Edge patterns can be colored to match corresponding stamp patterns or made to contrast. Rollers are available in an assortment of realistic patterns. Hardscape Systems is based upon a the tried-and-true construction material EPS foam. It has been reliably used for decades and is known (strangely) for its strength and durability. EPS possesses ideal physical and mechanical properties for many construction needs. As a result of its manufacturing process, aging does not effect the long-term stability of EPS. Due to its flexibility and versatility, it can be cut into sheets, blocks, slabs, or any desired design to meet specific building construction requirements, as well as customized designs. EPS is used as insulation in walls, roofs, and foundations, and serves as an integral component of structural insulated panels, insulated concrete forms, and exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS). Concrete is susceptible to absorbing moisture, which contains soluble minerals that break the bonds that hold concrete together, causing it to crack or corrode overtime. Concrete is also quite permeable and can easily be stained by nature or commercial/residential chemical products. After spending time and money laying new concrete, no one wants to see it be less than perfect for some time. To avoid scratching, denting, or ruining concrete, the best concrete sealer should be applied for the application at hand. The type of concrete sealer will determine when the sealer should be placed. Many sealers should be applied as soon as the concrete can bear weight. Other sealants (like epoxy, for example) will need to wait to be applied until the concrete is completely cured. In general, all concrete sealer varieties can be applied once the concrete is cured in about 28 to 30 days.
