Firepit Liners
Plain gray concrete is boring, and to be honest, there is very little truth to “plain” when it comes to walls. Plain gray concrete is often filled with a multitude of imperfections, such as lines, gaps, voids and exposed aggregates. Creating a true plain gray wall would be difficult since it is formed. For horizontal work we have the ability to manipulate the concrete how we want. Skilled trowelling or texturing is possible. Since vertical-formed concrete has to set in between forms, any manipulation must come after the fact and is often labor intensive and/or costly. In comes the use of form liners. Form liners are textured inserts that come in many different textures and patterns that will, when attached to the inside of the formwork, leave the concrete with very pleasing effects. Used in “architectural concrete” for decades to make large scale vertical surfaces more pleasing, form liners are now found in mainstream concrete use, making even smaller projects more aesthetically acceptable. Step Inserts
Using a step insert to complete your decorative concrete project is a wise choice. A poorly finished riser on a step or porch will detract from the best stamp job. When approaching a step, a person’s eye is naturally drawn to the vertical portion (riser) of the step and we all know first impressions are important. When step liners are used in the proper manner, that same job will be stunning. The relief and level of craftsmanship simply cannot be obtained by pulling the form early and trying to apply texture at that point.

In time, people learned to quarry, cut, and chisel stone. Transportation advances allowed quarried stone to make it to the construction site. The new mortars enabled masons to create some of the most magnificent walls on earth. To this day natural stone walls and facades are considered a desirable high end finish. In the late 19th century, with the invention of reinforced concrete, masonry began to lose its supremacy. Concrete walls were typically lighter and stronger then masonry alone. They required much less labor, thus less expensive. The problem was plain grey concrete is drab and boring, almost depressing in urban environments.

Admixtures
We offer various admixtures for the improvement of concrete countertop mixes. This may include plasicizers, water reducers, reology modifiers, special fibers, retarders, troweling aids, acrylic fortifiers and more.
Decorative Aggregate
Decorative aggregates, such as colored glass or crushed stone, can add a great uniqueness to a concrete countertop. Aggregate is not very difficult to use and it creates a total custom look. However, it does require more work that just pouring the concrete because you need to expose the aggregate through careful grinding and optional polishing. Here are three basic ways (ranked from easiest to most difficult) of getting the decorative aggregate into a pour-in-place concrete countertop: 1: Mix all of the decorative aggregate in with the concrete. 2: Placing aggregate in the bottom of the mold when precasting (pouring upside down) 3: “Seeding” the aggregate in the top of the concrete once the forms are filled. First easiest method is mixing the aggregate into the concrete for more consistancy. Since the decorative aggregate is mixed into the concrete, all surfaces will look the same. In addition, the average spacing of the aggregates is more uniform. It does take the most aggregate though, up to 10 pounds per 50 lb bag.
